Baskets of white, yellow and orchid chrysanthemums and candelabra decorated the altar of St. Joseph's Catholic church Friday evening at Miss Joan Barbara Yungers exchanged nuptial vows with Willard Melvin Steele. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Yungers, 1515 West Fourth street, and the groom's parents are Mrs. and Mrs. Elmer Steele of Hager City, Wis.
The Rev. Robert Dunn solemnized the double ring ceremony at 8 o'clock. The soloist was Donald Engeldinger and he was accompanied by Mrs. Donald Engeldinger who played a medley of organ music. Attending the bride as matron of honor was Mrs. Donald Knudsen of St. Louis Park. The flower girl was Anita Knudsen, also of St. Louis Park. Vernice Aslakson of Red Wing served as best man and the ushers were Donald Steele and Everett Peterson, also of Red Wing.
Floral patterned white lace over taffeta fashioned the bride's gown. A scoop neckline edged with scallops of lace completed the detail of the close fitting bodice and the bouffant skirt was finished with a sunburst of pleated nylon tulle. A crown of seed pearls caught her ballerina length veil and she wore a pearl necklace, a gift from the groom. Her flowers were Johanna Hill roses in a cascade bouquet.
Mrs. Knudsen chose a gown of mint green net over taffeta and her flowers were orchid pompons and yellow carnations in a semi-cascade arrangement. The flower girl, in a floor length dress of white net covered taffeta, carried a basket of yellow carnations and white pompoms. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Yungers selected a navy blue flock with which she wore pink accessories. The mother of the groom, in a grey dress, wore black accessories. They both had shoulder corsages of pink garnet roses. Following the nuptials 200 guests attended the reception held at St. Joseph's school hall. The serving tables were arranged with bouquets of white, yellow and orchid 'mums.
Mrs. Theodore Poncelet assisted by Mrs. George Fellman presided at the coffee table and Mrs. Howard Perkins served the bridal cake. Attending the guest book was Mrs. Ronald Anderson while Mrs. Harry Jacobson and Mrs. Darrell Johnson cared for the gifts. He was member of a large family consisting of six brothers and six sisters, whose attachment for each other was peculiarly warm. One of the brothers died in the army of the Potomac, in the deceased also served as Captain in the 10th New York regiment of cavalry, from 1861 to 1864. In 1864, Mr. Purdy came to Red Wing. During his residence here he successfully engaged in farming. He held the position of President of the Goodhue County Agricultural Society for three years, and contributed much to its efficiency. Those who have shared the hospitality of his home, and who knew him most intimately, speak warmly of his courtesy and kind of heart. His sickness was of only one week's continuance, taking the form of acute neuralgia, and congestion of the lungs. Not until a few hours before his death was he considered dangerously ill by his family. As he had been a man of unusual strength of constitution his sudden and untimely death occasioned a shock in the community such as has rarely been experienced here.

In Memoriam, Amanda C. Purdy, wife of Oliver W. Purdy. Amanda C. Marvin was born in Tompkins county, N.Y., July 13, 1830, and died at her home in Featherstone, Jan. 17, 1899; age, 68 years, 6 months and 4 days. On Jan. 21, 1851, she was united in marriage to Oliver Purdy, who, with one daughter, remains to mourn. The family moved from Wisconsin to this state in 1876, and soon after settled on a farm in Featherstone, where success and prosperity attended their toil.
She was a woman of peculiar tact and grace; endowed as she was with a cheerful disposition, and a cultivated mind, she won the hearts of all whom she came in contact with. She had the rare gift of adapting herself to her surroundings and environments. With a company of children and youth, she was one of them, and would fully enter into their pleasures and enjoyments; with those who were weary and faltering in the conflict of every day life, her cheerful words and looks always gave courage strength and hope; with the sorrowing- and much there is all about us- she was the angel of mercy who, unasked would come into the stricken home, and with words and deeds of love, bring a ray of light and hope, to the afflicted ones. She was of strong religious disposition and dearly loved the house of God, and was in her place there, even after health had failed. She was one of those queenly characters well fitted to fill any position in the land, but her home was her throne, and right royally did she reign there. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Cahoon, assisted by her former pastor, Rev. H.J. Harrington.
