He died on 15 December 1955 at age 63. He was buried at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.²

John D. Monhaut, 76, of Lilac Road in South Bend, Ind., passed away Friday, March 28, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born on Sept. 21, 1926, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late John B. and Mary (Shimp) Monhaut. Mr. Monhaut retired in 1990 as a maintenance supervisor from the University of Notre Dame after 17 years of service. Prior to his employment with Notre Dame, Mr. Monhaut worked as a dairy farmer for many years.

On Oct. 4, 1947, John married Agnes Kramer, who survives. Surviving with his wife of 55 years are his children, Karen (Rick) Bauer of Niles, Mich; Mary (Kip) Klute of South Bend; Donald (Nan) Monhaut of Granger, Ind; Edward (Debbie) Monhaut of South Bend; Thomas (Roxann) Monhaut of Goshen, Ind; Larry (Denise) Monhaut of Hastings, Minn; Kevin (Kim) Monhaut of South Bend; and Jeff (Jenny) Monhaut of New Carlisle, Ind. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sisters Pauline Accoe of Dowagiac, Mich., Alice Hartman of Osceola, Ind., Eleanor Freehauff of Lakeville, Ind., and Julia Vande Zande of South Bend.

A son, John Andrew Monhaut, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Monhaut was a charter member of Corpus Christi Parish, served his country in the Navy during World War II, and loved fishing and Notre Dame football.

     Julia Anne Monhaut was born on 28 January 1935 at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. She was the daughter of John Baptist Monhaut and Mary Alice Shimp. Julia Anne Monhaut was a Catholic. She married Ronald VandeZande, son of Felix VandeZande and Martha Scherperal, on 8 September 1951 at Indiana.^1,2 Julia Anne Monhaut lived in 2003 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.¹ She lived in September 2017; Julia was alive in 2017 when her sister Pauline died. She lived in March 2020 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.³

Julia Ann VandeZande, 88, passed away in Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
Julia was born on January 29, 1935 in South Bend, to the late John and Mary Monhaut. On September 8, 1951, she married her loving husband, Ronald VandeZande, he preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John and sisters, Pauline and Alice.
Left to cherish the memory of Julia are her children, Daniel (Carol) VandeZande, Sr., James (Loretta) VandeZande, Debra (John) Nowacki, and Rhonda (David) Bennett; 6 grandchildren; Danny (Missy) VandeZande, Jr., Jason (Beth) VandeZande, Corey (Amy) Dill, Justin (Angie) Pendilla, Dylan (Kristine) Pendilla, and Olivia (Isauro) VandeZande; 5 great-grandchildren and another on the way; her loving companion, Phil Vanderburg; sister, Eleanor Freehauf; and many nieces and nephews.
Julia worked for the SBSC as a School Bus Driver. After retiring, she loved spending time with her husband and family at their cabin in Bitely, MI. They enjoyed fishing, boating, riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, and traveling to Florida and Arizona. In her younger years, she loved being outdoors caring for the farm with her brother, John. She preferred outdoor chores over house chores. Julia stayed active throughout her life, from gymnastics to dancing, and continued her love of dance with her longtime companion, Phil Vanderburg. Euchre and dominos were some of her favorite games. Julia’s amazing personality made her the favorite aunt of the family. She loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.

DOWAGIAC - Pauline M. Accoe, 93, of Dowagiac, passed away on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Lakeland Medical Center - St. Joseph, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at 11 AM at Holy Maternity Catholic Church, 210 N. Front St., Dowagiac, with Father Richard Altine officiating. Burial will follow at Missions Hills Memorial Garden. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, from 4 PM until 8 PM, with the Rosary being recited at 7:30 PM at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Pauline was born on April 8, 1924, in Mishawaka, IN, to John B. & Mary (Shimp) Monhaut. She graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1943. On Feb. 19, 1944, she married the love of her life, Richard M. Accoe, in South Bend. They were happily married for 64 years before he passed away in 2008. Pauline loved tending to her family dairy farm. Together, she and Richard would care for their cows and run their farm as partners. She was a proud member of the Holy Maternity Catholic Church Ladies Guild, a leader at the Cass Co. 4H Fair, and a graduate from Home Economics Mini College. In 1993, Pauline was awarded the Homemaker of The Year Award. She had always enjoyed cooking and sewing, but most important to her was her family. Pauline was an incredible lady, with a heart of gold. She will be missed dearly by everyone.

Pauline is survived by her children, Richard J. (Lynn) Accoe of Dowagiac, Kathrine Orr of South Bend. Michael (Susan) Accoe of Dowagiac, & David Accoe of Dowagiac; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; & siblings, Alice Hartman, Eleanor Freehauf, & Julia Van de Zande.      Jeanette M. Monroe was born on 6 August 1874.¹ She married Bernard F. Vliet in 1902 at Lewistown, Fulton Co., Illinois. Jeanette M. Monroe died on 2 February 1941 at age 66.² Jeanette was possibly born in Ohio, had a nickname of Nety.

     Du Wayne James Monteith was born on 15 June 1934 at Ada, Norman Co., Minnesota. He married Gretchen R. Detwiler, daughter of John Henry Detwiler and Esther May Lovejoy, on 15 June 1957 at King Co., Washington.^2,1 Du Wayne James Monteith died on 25 October 2011 at Bowdon, Wells Co., North Dakota, at age 77.

     Lula Montgomery was born in 1884 at Wichita, Sedgwick Co., Kansas.¹ She married Lemuel C. Wren. Lula Montgomery died in 1964 at Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington.¹ She was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, La Center, Clark Co., Washington.¹

     Norma Lee Montgomery married Patrick Eugene Rupel, son of Maurice Eugene Rupel and Mary Elizabeth Tamplen, on 8 January 1983 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Wichita, Wichita Co., Texas.

     Trina Kathleen Montgomery is the daughter of Rev. Thomas Montgomery and Janet Yungmann.¹ Trina Kathleen Montgomery married David Andrew Lieb, son of Rev. Francis Martin Lieb and Kay Margaret Kranz, on 27 December 1997 at Christ Lutheran Church, Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas.¹

     Alfred Justice Montross was born on 23 January 1882 at New York. He married Marian Cecil Harding, daughter of Nathaniel Harding and Dorthea Cecil, on 8 October 1906 at Ohio. Alfred Justice Montross died on 4 July 1916 at Indiana at age 34.

     Sean Joseph Mooney married Avery Lynn Nestaval, daughter of Jerry Edward Nestaval and Sandra Doris Greenfield, in August 1998 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Longview, Cowlitz Co., Washington.¹

     Edna Belle Moore was born on 11 August 1900 at Illinois. She married Homer Hartsel Redman, son of John William Redman and Della Regina Kerr, on 23 August 1918 at Indiana.¹ Edna Belle Moore died on 17 December 1918 at Illinois at age 18.

     Freddie L. Moore was born on 23 November 1944 at Fremont, Carter Co., Missouri. He married Serena Jo Parks, daughter of Douglas Norbert Parks and Audrey Ann Houser, on 13 April 1968 at Whatcom Co., Washington. Freddie L. Moore and Serena Jo Parks were divorced on 3 July 1980 at Whatcom Co., Washington. Freddie L. Moore died on 4 June 2009 at Lynnwood, Snohomish Co., Washington, at age 64.

     Jack P. Moore was born in 1934. He graduated circa 1956 at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, degree in History.¹ He and Gary Carlton Harn were unmarried partners between 1983 and 2022.^1,2 Jack P. Moore died on 14 May 2022 at Village of Cross Keys, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland.¹

Jack Moore died peacefully on May 14, 2022 in his home in the Village of Cross Keys, where he had lived for several decades with his partner of 39 years, Gary Harn. Prior to living there they had lived in the Canton section of Baltimore. They had met and lived at the Tudor Arms in Baltimore after Jack had returned to Baltimore, and later where Jack served on the board of trustees.

He also was the president of the board of directors at the church he attended for several decades, Saints Stephen and James. Of great importance to him, he was also a 32nd degree Mason and believed deeply in serving his community and he did so in many ways over the many decades of his 88 years. He was a person who could walk into a cocktail party knowing no one and leave with 50 new friends! He was a loyal and caring friend, with many friends spanning decades, some even since childhood.

Jack graduated from City College, was president of his class, and mayor of Baltimore for a day. He was accepted into Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship and graduated with a degree in History . He had applied to and planned on going to law school, but the Navy had other ideas and so instead, he and his new bride headed to Newport, RI where he went to OCS and became an officer. He was then transferred to report to Moffet Field in CA and was deployed to Japan.

When he was discharged from the Navy, he and his wife and new baby returned to Baltimore, where he would go on to earn his Master’s in Maryland History. His dream was to go to law school and become an attorney and one day run for public office. But a young and growing little family with a baby boy now also on the way necessitated a more practical course of action so as to support them. He worked briefly for the American Heart Association before beginning a long and successful career as an executive with Xerox Corporation.

His work with Xerox also meant a move with every promotion, and he relocated with his family from Baltimore to Rochester NY to Kansas City KS, then back to Rochester, and then finally to Connecticut. After leaving Xerox he returned to MD, started a small business and eventually retired into the role of a very beloved professor teaching business and marketing courses at Towson University. He enjoyed traveling, going to the symphony, oil painting, jewelry making, nature and camping, and going to the theatre.

Jack leaves behind his partner of 39 years, Gary Harn, his daughter Valerie Dale and her husband Jack, son Jon G. Moore,Sr. and his wife Patti, 4 very beloved grandchildren, Carrie Reinhardt (Ed), Nicholas Hertges, Jon G. Moore, Jr. (Kolbee), Katharine Moore, and his most treasured great grandchildren, Ava Reinhardt, Eddie Reinhardt, and Sophia Moore, and Baby Moore #2 (due in a matter of weeks).

His was a life well lived, he was rich in friends and in family, all of whom will remember his devotion to family, friends, service to others and to his community; and for his charming and wry sense of humor, practical jokes, and his occasional mischief.

MRS. MARY HARN, AGED 94, DIES
Mrs. Mary Harn, one of the most aged and widely known women in this county died at the home of her son, Evans Harn, of McClellandtown, this morning at 1 o’clock. Mrs. Harn was born December 14th, 1820 , and had she lived until next month she would have been 94 years of age. She is the mother of six children, Wesley Harn, of Uniontown; Oliver, John and Evans, of McClellandtown; Mrs. Kenneth Hagan, of Uniontown, and Mrs. Emery Walters, of Belle Vernon. She had been ill for the past few months. The cause of her illness was heart trouble and infirmities of age. She had enjoyed excellent health all her life until recently. Just last summer she made a trip to Uniontown to visit her daughter, Mrs. Hagan and spent several months with her. She was born on a farm near New Salem and spent practically all her life in this immediate vicinity. She has lived In McClellandtown for the past 60 years. She had been a widow for the past forty years. When in trouble or distress her neighbors always found her ready and willing to offer her services. In times of sickness in the community she was among the first to be called. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church at McClellandtown. Funeral services will be announced later. Interment will be made in the Church Hill cemetery.
