Charles Joseph D'Arcy

RONAN - Charles Joseph D'Arcy, 94, of Polson, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Mountain View Care
Center in Ronan. Chuck was born on Nov. 23, 1923, in Trochu, Alberta, Canada, the son of Francis and Mary (Walsh) D'Arcy. He was the fourth of their five children.

The family moved to Butte where Chuck's dad gained employment as a miner in the Butte mines. Chuck had a
rough and tumble childhood. When he wasn't creating mischief, he was serving Mass as an altar boy at St. Mary's Church. He also delivered groceries for a local store. After graduating from Butte Central High School in 1942, he worked for the railroad until joining the Army in 1943.

Chuck proudly served as a rifle marksman and general carpenter during World War II in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After returning home he worked at the Anaconda Smelter until in 1946 he was hired by the National Cash Register Company as a service technician. He worked for NCR for forty-two years and retired in 1988.

Chuck met the love of his life on a blind date on the 4th of July in 1953. Marion Boice from Polson was working as a nurse in Galen. They fell in love and were married on Feb. 27, 1954. Their union was blessed with six children. After numerous transfers while working for NCR, Chuck and his family settled in Billings.

Chuck's life was filled with raising children, service calls around the state for NCR and special trainings for new machines as technology evolved.

Following retirement, Chuck and Marion traveled to visit their children and grandchildren. They went camping, fishing, gardened and enjoyed their family and friends.

In 2008, they moved to Polson and in 2015 became residents at St. Joseph's Assisted Living. When Chuck's health declined he moved to Mountain View Care Center in Ronan.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; his brothers Gerald (Mary), and John (Laura); his sisters, Elizabeth (John) McGarry, and Katherine (Gilbert) Thrasher; his infant daughter, Margaret; and his son, Michael.

He is survived by his children: Pat (Jay) Blanchard of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Frances (Jim) Wilson of Polson; Thomas (Mel) D'Arcy of Billings, Robert (Chris) D'Arcy of Fairhaven, Massachusetts; and daughter in-law Debbie D'Arcy of Casper, Wyoming. Chuck is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Tiege (Becky) Gates of Fernley, Nevada; Chris D'Arcy of Casper, Wyoming, Kelsey D'Arcy (Mary Ellen) of Billings; Jamie Tony) Blixt of Missoula; Kellie (Ryan) Grandone of Great Falls; Katie (Jack) Leiter of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Drew Wilson of Peoria, Arizona; John Blanchard of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Britney (Andrew) Provo of Sunapee, New Hampshire; Amber (Tom) Riley of Belgrade; Jessica D'Arcy of Helena; and 3rendan (Heather) Foster of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. His 20 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Family was always most important to Chuck.

His lasting legacies were his deep faith, his quiet, gentle wisdom, and his incredible work ethic.
His family would like to thank Dr. Rausch, the staff at St. Joseph's Assisted Living and Mountain View Care Center for easing Chuck's way for the last three years. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Polson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the church, graveside services with military honors will be held at Lakeview Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at thelakcfuneralhomeandcremation.com. The Lake Funeral Home in Polson is assisting the family with arrangements.
