     Van Buren Greenwood was born on 18 March 1843 at Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of William Greenwood and Susan Pancake. Van Buren Greenwood married Harriet Longley, daughter of Thomas Longley and Mary Rupel, on 8 October 1867 at St. Joseph Co., Indiana.2,1 Van Buren Greenwood died on 27 June 1889 at Diamond, Newton Co., Missouri, at age 46.1 He was buried at Dudman Cemetery, Sarcoxie, Jasper Co., Missouri.1 He began military service on 5 June 1861. He ended military service on 21 June 1864.

He was a Private in Company E, 4th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry during the Civil War, on the Union side. He was injuried on 12May1864 at Spotsvania Court House, Virginia.

CARTHAGE, Mo. - A Carthage man and his wife were killed Friday when their car was hit broadside by a truck as they tried to drive across a highway.      Clarence Greenwood, 82, and Sidney Greenwood, 79, were killed instantly when they pulled in front of the truck on U.S. 71 Alternate, five miles south of Carthage, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. The truck driver was slightly injured in the wreck, which occurred at 10:45 a.m.
