C. D. Harn was yesterday granted a divorce from Rachel Harn by Judge Stearns. They were married in Niles, Michigan, October 22, 1856, and have-two children, who are awarded to the care the plaintiff. The ground of the divorce is cruel treatment.6
Calvin Davis Harn married Elizabeth Smith on 30 May 1887 at Spokane Co., Washington.7
THE citizens of the Third ward selected C. D. Harn for candidate for councilman on the republican ticket because they knew his worth and that he will make them a strong representative. He will have but little opposition at the polls.

SAYS PURE WATER KEEPS HIM YOUNG
Pioneer of City Knows Not the Taste of Tea, Coffee, Beer Whisky or Tobacco.
BUILT FIRST ELEVATORS
Tells of Days When Sturdy Men Were Needed to Operate Them.
I do not know what tea, coffee, beer, or tobacco taste like," C D. Harn, one of the oldest pioneers
in the city, yesterday, "I just drink cold water and plenty of it. You would not think I was 80 years of age, and in fact, I did not quit work until six months ago.
"About all that is wrong with me now is that I can't think like I once could. I forget so much. Oh, yes, this home belongs to me and my wife. I came Spokane 24 years, and the population was between 800 and 900.
"I built freight and passenger elevators for several years. The first one I put in was where your big white building is now. Yes, the Paulsen, that is the one I mean. There have been three buildings on the spot since I came.
"Elevators those days were dangerous, but I never built one that would not stand the test. I was taught the trade by my father, who was a millwright, at the age of 12 years.
Only Men Ran Elevators.
"Did they have boys to run the elevators? Well I guess not. These kids you see playing with those big elevators now couldn't have shaken one of the old-fashioned ones. The rope ran over a big drum at the top of the shaft. If too many passengers got on at a time the man could not draw them up. It was an easy matter to release the brakes and let it down. I knew of one falling that killed six people.
"You see, I built a home on Cannon Hill and sent to Dayton, Minn., for my present wife after I came to this city 24 years ago. We came to 819 Montgomery avenue later.
"I went to Frisco in '56 and after stopping there a couple of months, made a trip to Portland. It was only a village at that time. I returned to Minnesota the same way I came. A part of the Panama road was constructed, but we had to hoof It part of the way across the isthmus before returning by boat to New York.
Never Hunts or Fishes.
"I have never gone hunting or fishing all the time I have resided in the west. All that I cared for was my work. I have never been 'broke' since I was a boy and I think it was because mother taught me to let drink alone. My father drank at times and it caused trouble.
"I do not think I have shot a gun since I landed in San Francisco In 1856. I made up my mind that I would do my work well and tend to my own business. I have lots of friends and if I have an enemy I don't know it.
"This is my mother's Bible, but I do not care to read it. I joined the Masons when I was 22 years of age.
I sympathize with the socialists, but do not think the I. W. W.s (Industrial Workers of the World) are in the right.
"I can't tell just how long I have to live, but my mother was past 80 when she died. My eight children are still living, but my baby, over in Idaho, is 35 years old."

History of Rice County, published in 1882, by Charles S. Bryant, provides a list of old settlers into Rice County, by the Old Settlers Association. C.D. Harn recorded as arriving in 1856.
The Hennepin Co., MN Deed Index, Book 25, page 416, states that on 08Nov1869, Calvin D. Harn was the grantor of land on Lot 8 in Block "R".
History of Rice County, published in 1882, by Charles S. Bryant, states that Hon. George W. Tower was elected the first mayor of Faribault, and C.D. Harn was elected as alderman. With inauguration being on 09 Apr 1872.
In 1874, G.F. Batchelder sold his handsome house and grounds, embracing 5 lots to C.D. Harn, of the firm Harn and Synder, for about $7000. [1].
C.D. Harn in 1876, was the President of the Taopi Flouring Mill Company. Messers C.D. Harn and Hiram Snider own half the stock in the Taopi Mill; they also are owners of the Faribault Mills. The steam flouring mill in Taopi, has a capacity to grind 300,000 bushels per year. Taopi is in Mower Co, MN. [2].
Following the James and Younger brother's attack on the Northfield Bank in 1876, C.D. Harn was with a party of men from Faribault, that discovered two of the horses belonging the robbers. Five saddles were also discovered. [3].
In 1877, the Diamond Flour Mill at Taopi, Mower County, was dismantled and moved to Janesville and re-assembled. It was operated by Harn, Snyder & Co. for about two years, when the firm failed and the buildings stood idle for about three years. [4].
C.D. Harn purchased 501 acres of land in 1880, lying west of Cedar Lake, in Shieldsville township, and extending to Mud Lake, on the west. It is his intention to enter extensively into sheep and cattle farming. The land is all wild and includes some very fine timber land and a good deal of excellent pasturage. [5].
Left wife and family in Minnesota around 1880, and moved west to Washington.
In 1892, C.D. Harn was elected as a councilman in Spokane, Washington. [6].
